Top 3 Lead Singers of All Time
I have been thinking for quite a while about writing my own version of a ‘greatest… ever’ list, I see them all the time on music magazines and of course, they are all up to the opinion of the person who is writing the article and naturally, many will disagree. I was having a chat with my good friend Steve Lindamood recently over a drink and we got to talking about the best lead singers of all time, we disagreed on almost each one, there were a few that we could agree we on but the rest of the list, we were miles away from each other. For that reason I wanted to jot down my favorite lead singers of all time and see what you all think of it, leave your comments below the article and tell me what you think of my selections.
Freddie Mercury
Without any doubt in my mind, the greatest front man of any band, rock or otherwise, was Freddie Mercury. Freddie not only had one of the most incredible voices which was just as amazing in concert as it was when he recording in a studio. To add to that incredible voice, Mercury had the ability to pock the crowd up in the palm of his hand and take them on a magical musical journey for a couple of hours. Mercury will be remembered for his half mic stand, his crazy outfits and of course, that sensational performance that cemented the band’s iconic status at Live Aid in 1985.
Michael Jackson
The Jackson 5 blew the World away when they first started releasing music on the Motown label and before long they were making TV appearances on the biggest shows across the World. A young Michael Jackson started singing his outstanding songs at the age of just 5 and he would go on to become one of the greatest male solo stars that has ever lived. Michael was the heartbeat of the Jackson 5 and without him there is no question that the band wouldn’t have achieved success.
Liam Gallagher
Love him or loathe him, you can not deny the profound impact that Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has had on the music landscape and his take on ‘the front man’ is unlikely to be replicated for some years to come. Foul-mouthed, arrogant and aggressive, Liam Gallagher love nothing more than pushing people’s buttons, to back it up though he had one of the greatest rock voices of a generation, and stood at the helm of the biggest band on the planet. Singer brother Noel’s songs with raspy swagger, Gallagher was one of the keys to the success of the Britpop scene of the 90s and his rivalries with the media, other bands, his brother Noel as well as along list of people who he despised, have become the stuff of legend.
What do you think of my top 3? Who would you add? Take away? Let me know!
