Supersonic 2009 gets underway

Written by Plan B on Friday, February 20th, 2009

Capsule have just announced the preliminary lineup for this year’s Supersonic festival, set to take place on 24-26 July at the Custard Factory, Birmingham.

We hailed this festival “best organised and most wisely curated” in 2008 and “festival of the year 2007″, and with a huge thumbs-up for being the festival to brazenly unite polar genres without ostentation, what could possibly be in store for the Supersonic 2009?

Drum roll please.

Proudly, Supersonic will host the return of Blast First band Head of David (pictured), who have been quietly recovering from their stoner/industrial rock-out for near on 23 years. Alongside this exciting re-emergence stroll out the illustrious 65 Days of Static, avant-garde jazz cyborgs Zu, ex-Swans vocal magician Jarboe, plus Pontiak, Diagonal, Theo, Venetian Snares, Nancy Wallace, PRE, and ZzZ plus a bunch more yet to be confirmed.

So, following last years quite frankly awesome and insightful lineup including bands such as Battles, Fuck Buttons, Efterklang, Parts & Labor, and Rolo Tomassi plus a whole stack more, you’d have thunk it hard to top this year. However, fear not a similarly eclectic concoction is back at Birmingham’s Custard Factory for the 7th year with yet more adventurous line-ups to suit every quirk – and yes, true to form, with films, talks and cake!
