It was Sunday, but yes, it went OK! Not many people there - well, I guess it was Easter Sunday, people have things to do other than listen to noise - but it was good to get back into playing after a year or so without doing so. I think patching a temperamental synth live was a bit foolish tho, sort of like spinning plates or something. And then dropping the plates. Most people don't care, they're just like, ooh a big noise, but I care! It's all about flow innit.

Ramleh were pretty heavy. Superb bass sounds.

Skullflower this w/end, in a church!

The powers that be have decided that I'm going to Unearthly Trance/Ramesses/Black Sun on Friday, Health/Divorce on Sunday rather than Earth (sorry to miss them, but I have seen them a whooooole bunch of times, so not dreadfully upset...) and Rolo Tomassi rather than 65dos on Wednesday (Hurrah!). Decisions made for now.

Just back from Earth, where they played a new song. Fast! Well, by Earth's standards, anyway.

Juan Maclean last night was great fun, even if they didn't look particulary happy to be there.

Gigtastic action this week: PJ + John Parish tonight, Fennesz tomorrow, Trail of dead on Thursday, the Bangface weekender on the weekend and now I see Sonic Youth are playing the Scala next Monday. My poor wallet.

Not a music gig, but zero books are publishing some cultural theory by David Stubbs and Owen Hatherley (with Dominic Fox and Mark Fisher to come later), and there's a launch/reading/free wine & crisps event in London tonight at Daunt books, on Marylebone High St. I'm going on me lonesome, and figured if anyone here locally londonish likes culture, and they like theory, and all that junk, shd come. link-o-mation here

How was PJ Harvey & John Parish? I'm going to see them in Edinburgh on Sunday night. Pretty stoked about it.

a little sneaky promotion here, but what the hey!

The 7th annual C H I N C H I L L A F E S T - 5/6/7 june 2009
Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
Advance 3-day weekend Ticket only £10

MONSTER KILLED BY LASER
PRINTED CIRCUIT
EAGLE EYE
TWO MINUTE NOODLES
EXECUTIVE LEGS

THAT FUCKING TANK
CLECKHUDDERSFAX
COWTOWN
HANDS ON HEADS
BALLOONS
BROKEN ARM
POLTERGROOM
THE JELAS
TIGERS!
CHICKENHAWK
HIRED MUSCLE

MAHJONGG
TALIBAM!
A MIDDLE SEX
CHOPS
THE LONG LONESOME GO
NOPE

Oh hell yeah!

We have booked The Brudenell Social Club (as usual!) for the 7th annual extravaganza of joyous stupidity, laughter, and fucked up super ace party time musics that is known globally as the wonderous, brilliant, fantasmical CHINCHILLAFEST!

You might just want to get your diary out (or whatever digital version you use) and scribble the dates in?

When we started up Chinchillafest back in 2003, there were considerably fewer small, independent festivals going on, and now there's probably fucking hundreds on your doorstep (though many of the so-called independent festivals are awash with advertising and sponsorship... none of that here, thank you very much). So, why do we continue?

Well, perhaps you could call us egotistical buckos, but we reckon we'll give you more bang for your buck, more smile per mile, over a ton of fun, and, most importantly, we think we manage to cram in the absolute cream of the UK's bestest, most musically adventurous bands from all sorts of ilks, normally with a few of our European and American friends to keep it nice and spicy!

Advance 3-day weekend tickets = £10
Weekend ticket on the door = £12

FRIDAY 5 JUNE, 7.30pm ... on the door - £4

SATURDAY 6 JUNE, 2.30pm ... on the door - £7

SUNDAY 7 JUNE, 5pm ... on the door - £7

Seems like I'm heading to ATP vs The Fans pt2. My first ATP since 2004. Just hoping we get there by 3pm, so I can see Grouper.

Other than that, I haven't got anything lined up. Felt really uninspired over the last few months to travel up to London for gigs and there isn't much around this way until May.

Cool, I'll be the guy in the band T and jeans desperately trying to get to Minehead before 3.30 so I can see Grouper.

Themselves, perhaps, tomorrow. Have got poetry type nights to attend tonight and Thursday which may make this less likely.

Then :kinema:/Line at the Hope on Friday. And thank god for a whole bank holiday weekend to recover before ATP.

Seriously tempted to go see Alec Empire on Sunday, as he was fantastic fun at Bangface on Friday. But I really should have a light weekend...

I had about as much fun as I've had at any point in my life so far. Zomby, Alec Empire, Snares, Ceephax (especially the second set!), Hellfish, Dexter, DJ Kentaro, Caspa, Otto Von Schirach, Luke Vibert... just brilliant. Zomby's set was one of the best I've ever taken in, I almost did myself a mischief dancing to that. I'll be going to this for as long as it's running, it was so much fun. I'm still recovering from the drive home; my voice is barely there.

How did you find it? Chances are I danced with you at one point...

Word has it that Zomby didn't actually play and that was someone replacing him - whoever it was it was excellent!

Alec Empire, Wisp, Dave Skywalker, Skream, Luke Vibert……… all incredible. The crowd were brilliant, my chalet mates were the best ever, the pool party was insanely fun…… pretty much the only downpoints were falling asleep before Shitmat on Friday and the train journey from hell on Monday morning.

I want to go back!

Yeah the crowd were excellent. I was sure I recognised some of the Zomby set, but a few people maintained a lot of the set was overlapping with Dexter. I was a bit incoherent to tell precisely, but all I know is that the two and a half hours crossing from the end of Dexter's set up to just before Skream started was utterly brilliant. If he was replaced my guess would be it was Caspa as they both sounded very similar.

btw if anyone can get to the bottom of this newfound mystery I'd appreciate it if you could let me know!

Here we go!

ZOMBY didn't show up - GINO GINELLI played instead
ANDREW WEATHERALL missed his flight due to a traffic block - RADIOACTIVEMAN played for 2 hours
LORY D broke both his legs and wasn't allowed to fly (Radiocativeman covered his set too)
DEXTER was not allowed on his flight - MAT CARTER played
TEKNOIST was bed bound with sickeness - SCHEMEBOY covered
SPEED DEALER MOMS (see other thread) - CEEPHAX played

:D

s'like when Bola didn't turn up at the Autechre ATP, so they just played a load of Bola stuff anyway, and everyone ended up lying on the floor in various states of mind-alteration. It was all very lovely, to the extent that the bouncers were turning masses of people away because there was no room.

Then we all tried to get up off the floor and found we were stuck to it with beerglue.

I think my favourite non-attendance was Comet Gain at Indietracks last year. Jon turned up but none of the others, so some of Shrag, Lichtenstein and Dorotea made up the numbers, did a VU cover and a wonderful version of 'You Can Hide Your Love Forever' with Viktor Dorotea on vocals.

It all seemed kind of right.

I only found out about the Au tour recently. Well, the night he played in Glasgow. So Sunday, then. And it was too late. And I'm kind of gutted.

Kode 9 Kode 9 Kode 9!!!

Might catch Skaters beforehand, but they can be awfully dull live. It's a good Glasgow DIY show though, so I like to support these things.

It feels like months since I went to a gig, and months until I shall... it must be essay time, for which I am, as usual, woefully underprepared :( Sublime Frequencies show in Glasgow is next for me on the 22nd...

Kode 9 and Hudson Mohawke were chuffin' fantastic last night. Best night of dancing and bass in a long time. HudMo's smooth pimped out 80s funk tunes were a delight and while Kode 9's 9 Samurai is a fine tune, but hearing it on a home stereo doesn't prepare you for the sheer power of its bass pressure in a club. Hot dog!
