Saturday saw Björk, Sigur Rós, Ólöf Arnalds and Ghostigital share a Reykjavik stage for the biggest ever concert held on Icelandic soil. Náttúra took place to raise awareness of environmental damage created by heavy industry in the country, particularly to Kárahnjúkar, which has been underwater since the construction of a huge dam.
"I've never been a part of something like this before, and I never thought I would,” said Björk. “But there is so much at stake here. What we need more than anything is information. And this is my goal with this concert."
The event was created with the hope that it would inspire and inform different ways of approaching environmental issues and for Iceland to maintain a strong economy without intrusive industrial processes and selling land at cut-price rates to multinational corporations.
