Vialka
As Vialka, Marylise Frecheville and Eric Boros make music for a world spun off its axis. From their farmhouse home in rural France, this self-described "turbofolk" duo plot elaborate journeys across the globe, breathing in indigenous musics - gypsy folk, Malian griot storytelling, improv jazz - and singing them back with gusto. Think: The Ex, Sun City Girls, Gogol Bordello... and hear their new self-released album, Plus Vite Que La Musique.
"The world is in a machine, going faster and faster, and everyone’s pressed against the wall."

Safetyword
Born in the Isle Of Man, now transplanted to Bristol, Safetyword are "four Manx swains who write songs about medieval torture devices and the common handshake". Quixotic, progressive DIY pop music shot through with the inherent Englishness of Robert Wyatt, Syd Barrett and Ivor Cutler. A single, 'Pope Joan/Dandelion Clock' is out now on Static Caravan.
"We got into the habit of chiseling away until only what was necessary to carry the song would remain. Often we go too far and have to reattach lumps"

Shimmy Rivers And And Canal
A new No Wave eruption straight outta London, England: think Big Flame, Essential Logic, The Contortions, scratchy guitars, saxophone played without due care and attention. They've shared stages with Scout Niblett and dropped records on Stolen Recordings and White Heat.
