Plan B and FatCat: free covermount, exclusive tracks
Words: Plan B
gregoryfatcat.jpg This month’s issue of Plan B comes bundled with a free 16-track CD sampler from those generous folk at FatCat Records. Featuring tracks from the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Nina Nastasia, and Vetiver, the cover-mounted disc also includes exclusive new tunes from the likes of delicate New York songstress Gregory And The Hawk (left), literary backwater folkster Tom Brosseau (below), German-born neoclassicalist Max Richter, and fellow German experimental pianist Hauschka.

tomfatcat.jpg “FatCat has a very diverse roster and this CD really reflects that as it starts out with a folksy vibe and moves from that through classical and indie,” says FatCat label boss Dave Cawley. “This compilation represents the output of FatCat throughout 2008, and what to expect in 2009 when Nina Nastasia and Vashti Bunyan will be putting out new albums.”

tomfatcat.jpg Cawley reserves particular mention for upcoming Glaswegian outfit We Were Promised Jetpacks (left) and their tight, angular indie, and hints that this may also be an early opportunity to ‘call shotgun’ on the Ten Kens bandwagon. The Canadian four-piece sent in a demo to FatCat that Dave describes as a “real grower of a record”. “The band make all their own videos which are fantastic! We’re starting from scratch with them, getting them to tour America and Europe and kicking off with the new single [released June 9 > and the forthcoming album, due out September 15.”

Until then, you can get your free thrills from the following tracks:
1. Vashti Bunyan – I Want To Be Alone
2. David Karsten Daniels – Martha Ann
3. Gregory And The Hawk – Ghost (exclusive)
4. Nina Nastasia – Your Red Nose
5. Vetiver – To Baby
6. Tom Brosseau – True To You (exclusive)
7. Silje Nes – Dizzy Street
8. Ten Kens – Y’All Come Back Now
9. Charlottefield – Snakes

11. We Were Promised Jetpacks – Quiet Little Voices (exclusive)
12. Frightened Rabbit – I Feel Better

Hidden Cameras Play Manchester’s Anti-Pride
Words: Plan B
hidden cameras web.jpg The Hidden Cameras return to the UK later this summer to play a short string of shows, including a headline performance at Manchester’s ‘Anti-Pride’ celebration.

The shows - which mark the Canadian ‘gay church folk music’ outfit’s first appearance on UK shores in 18 months – will culminate in a performance at Manchester’s Ruby Lounge on August 24. The Anti- Pride celebrations were set up by Manchester’s gay/les/bi/trans movement as a reaction against the commercial approach of the Canal Street's Mardi Gras’ and provide an alternative programme of vibrant 'queer' nightlife and cultural events.

The night before, Hidden Cameras play St Leonard's Church in Shoreditch as a benefit for Galop, the city's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community safety charity.

The full list of dates are:
Westhill Community Hall, Brighton (August 22), St Leonard’s Church, Shoreditch (23), Ruby Lounge, Manchester (24)
